LA: Egg Slut

While researching food joints for my up-coming trip to LA, it became clear that people were obsessed with Egg Slut. Both Yelp reviewers and food critics gave it high praise for its breakfast sandwiches. Egg Slut started as a food truck before opening shop at Grand Central Market back in 2013. The Market itself boasts dozens of vendors–from produce and cheese shops to wood-fired pizza and Thai comfort food.

Egg Slut easily stands out despite the number of stalls though; the line for it wraps around the building. Be prepared for at least a 45 minute wait if not longer, especially on weekends. We killed time with the best possible solution: Tacos from Tacos Tumbras a Tomas.

The Egg Slut menu is pretty simple–a few sandwich options that of course, all come with egg. Pictured above is half the menu: bacon, egg, and cheese on a brioche bun, sausage, egg, and cheese on a biscuit, and the highly-rated, Fairfax, packed with scrambled eggs and cheddar, caramelized onions, and Sriracha mayo. The amount of cheese in each was insane–I absolutely loved it–it’s how I make my own breakfast sandwiches, always extra cheese. The cold brew in the bottle was pretty neat; it took my brain a second to register the coffee flavor coming from the lip of a bottle.

I’m not sure if I’d wait over an hour again the next time I’m in town, but if I do, I’m definitely going to substitute whatever I get with the biscuit. It was flaky, buttery, and perfect with the sandwich. After one bite of the sausage sandwich, I regretted not getting everything on the biscuit. Don’t make my mistake if you head here, team biscuit all the way.
